January was for intentions. February is for the follow-through.

As moms, we are busy and put everyone else ahead of ourselves. So it’s easy to let our own goals or resolutions slip because we simply don’t have time. It’s normal. You are not failing. Habits fail because we try to ADD them to our already jammed-pack lives.

Don’t give up. Instead, give up a habit that is draining your energy or is no longer serving you. This is the only way to make space for those well-intended resolutions. And a little hack is to tie the new habit into something you already doing.

The one I’m committing to this year is a walk after school drop off. It’s my personal time to set the tone for my day, get in some much needed quiet time, and also help me hit my 10,000 steps per day. It’s attainable and something I can do consistently during the week days.

This week, I challenge you to do a little reflecting and make space for a small new healthy habit that you’ll be proud you committed to a year from now.

Now, let’s get into the good stuff…

A Date Night Must

This is the new HOT spot that’s been blowing up social. Top Chef winner Charbel Hayek is the mastermind behind this must-try Mediterranean meets California Cost restaurant in San Clemente. The vibe is Greek Island romance. With the inviting energy, you’ll definitely want to enjoy another glass of wine and stay a while. If you’re anything like me, you’ll love the indoor-outdoor feel with a cozy fire pit and post-worthy decor. It truly is connection through food.

Since it’s new (just opened in December!), this one may be a little difficult to reserve…especially on the weekends. But if you’re an early bird or a night owl, you should be able to book something a week or so in advance. If you like that prime time spot, it’s worth the wait.

Family Fun-Day

February is peak Gray Whale season. There’s no better place to catch them than on a cruise out of Dana Point Harbor. It’s priceless to watch your children’s faces when they see one of these huge, magnificent creatures in the wild. It’s a perfect way to spend a warm afternoon on the water keeping your kids fully entertained.

If for some reason your boat didn’t get lucky enough to see one, they’ll give you free tickets to make sure you do the next time.

The trip is 2 hours and suitable for all ages. If you’re feeling ambitious during the week, Tuesday are 50% off. Otherwise, if you’re like me and find it hard to get out during the week, they are running a 30% off special if you use their code WW30.

Free & Kid Friendly

San Juan Pet Parade and Animal Rescue Expo

The Kids' Pet Parade is part of San Juan Capistrano's Fiesta de las Golondrinas. It’s such a fun time. Kids ages 5 to 12 can parade through Historic Town Center Park with their pets, competing for prizes in categories like Best Team Costume, Best Exotic Pet, and Best Bird. Past winners have shown up with everything from dogs to ponies to bearded dragons. No pre-registration needed. Just show up, sign up on the spot, and watch your kids light up seeing all of the animals. No pet? No worries! Your kids will love watching all of the animals parade around town.

After the parade, there’s an Animal Rescue Expo where local rescues set up booths where kids can meet adoptable animals and learn about fostering and volunteering.

It’s completely free and so much fun!

There’s also lots of great walkable spots to grab a bite or enjoy cocktail for the adults afterwards. My recommendation is Trevor’s at the Tracks, which usually has live music on their outdoor patio on the weekends. They also sell a busy bag to keep the kiddo’s entertained ;)

Coffee Lately

My weekend morning routine is something I look forward to every week. We grab a coffee and go for a long family walk. While I tend to be a creature of habit, we’ve been getting out of our bubble to try new local coffee shops. The one I have been loving lately is True Love Coffee Co. in San Juan Capistrano. Their drinks are smooth and creamy and you need to see the iced coffee cups, they are so cute! My go-to has been either an Americano with almond milk or an almond milk matcha latte. You know it’s good because there’s always a line, but somehow they are super quick and efficient. Definitely a must if you’re in the area and looking for a little morning (or afternoon) pick-me-up.

Now go take that walk, make that swap, and show up for yourself this month. You deserve it!

I want to know what new habit you're making space for and how you’re sticking with them. Hit reply and let me know.

See you next Thursday!
